Turnerjoy is from Chesterton, a small town an hour from Chicago. We started playing together in high school. Marty was only 15, catching rides to practice from his dad. Our first “studio” was a little garage, where we’d open the door at night and play under the stars, our music echoing into the dark as cars sped by on Highway 20.
Eventually, we found a new home in a basement beneath the Mobile Home Furnace and Supply Company, which we affectionately called “Mohofusu.” There, we built a little studio. We would spend the entire weekend for years lost in our songs, recording demos on a Tascam Portastudio 4-track. Our dream was to make one beautiful album. We poured our hearts into it, playing each song fast and slow, taking them apart and putting them back together again, until everything felt just right.
The record release was a sold out headlining show at the Metro in Chicago in August, 2002. That was our also last show.
